From the moment your private taxi transfer collects you on arrival at Thessaloniki airport, there is an immediate feeling that you are about to enjoy a holiday that is going to be something special.
Having just returned from a wonderful stay at Sani Resort in Halkidiki, I can honestly say that it has to be one of the top family friendly resorts in Europe.
With four properties located within its 1000 acre private estate, each hotel has its own character and personality with a theme that is consistent throughout… children of all ages are welcomed with open arms by every member of staff and nothing is too much trouble, regardless of age. The superb service provided is clear across every sector of the resort.
I stayed at the Sani Beach Club, which has three wonderful restaurants (Olympos, Dunes and Ouzerie), however some evenings, it was lovely to catch the complimentary shuttle to the Sani private marina and dine at one of the restaurants overlooking the luxurious yachts or the beach. A pre-dinner drink at the Sea You Up bar is highly recommended. Just sitting relaxing as the sun set, sipping a refreshing cocktail whilst the children mingled and played on the nearby grassed area or beach was one of my favourite parts of the day!
My family and I very much enjoyed the Sani Dine Around programme. Guests booking half and full board can use their meal allowance at 14 restaurants as part of this programme, however if you prefer not to eat from one of the several tailored menus available where there is no additional supplement to pay, then request the a-la-carte menu; a set meal allowance amount will be deducted from your food bill, which can be clearly seen when signing it back to your room each time. There are a further five restaurants to choose from that are not part of the Dine Around programme for an even greater selection.
Every hotel has many different room configurations to suit parties and families of most sizes. The flexibility to have the children in a separate room with an interconnecting door is hugely appealing to parents who have children perhaps a little older. Where grandparents have travelled too and are all too happy to have the children sleep in their room, the door in between offers both youngsters and parents freedom to come and go when needed. For couples, perhaps a suite, some even with a private plunge pool or garden may sound just perfect.
The resort has a full programme of events each day which range from guided jogging tours through to Zumba. There are bikes available for all ages and each hotel has its very own spa where adults can relax and unwind in the knowledge that the children are being well looked after in a safe and fun environment. The open air Garden Theatre, located near to the marina has free shows most evenings and during the main summer months, an open air cinema is also open in the evenings for an additional charge. The complimentary three hour morning cruises and half hour evening sunset cruises are very enjoyable for all ages.
I would highly recommend the complimentary Melissa Club for children. It is extremely popular and should be booked in advance of your arrival. Kids have a very full programme of their own which could include arts and crafts, making burgers, pyjama parties, mini discos and trips on an inflatable at the back of one of the resorts boats. My four year old had so many events that he wanted to go to, my hubby and I had to slot those in first and manoeuvre our programme to suit when and if required.
Nature and walking enthusiasts will adore the bird sanctuary at the Sani Wetlands, rolling mountain landscapes and evergreen pine forests.
The 7 kilometres of immaculate sandy beaches and Aegean crystal-clear waters where adults and children alike can swim safely is the perfect setting for this luxury resort in Greece. Whatever you are looking for on your holiday, I am fairly certain that Sani will cater for it and if we are unsure, we just ask!
